THE ARTISTS

David Raymond Conroy

b. 1978

Lives and works in London

In a broad practice, Conroy’s original source material is drawn from the creative output of others, both professionals and amateurs, from literature or art, blog articles or YouTube clips. His aim is not to usurp ownership but rather to engage with those artists and run alongside them in an effort to investigate the role and importance of mediating material, particularly introductions, interpretations and presentations. Conroy is interested in the role of the fan, the pundit, and the enthusiast, and how one engages with their opinions in relation to one's own, if it is possible to separate the two. With few works looking alike, pieces manifest themselves as video, found objects, found drawings authored by others, performance and constructions.

lives and works in London.

Sarah Derat is a french artist living in London. She earned her BA in Fine Arts from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2009 and her MA in Fine Arts also from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2011.

Across different materials such as steel, latex, fabric, Sarah Derat’s sculptural practice explores the aporetic nature of relationships, and our desire to see them last. Recurrent themes in her works are parallel lives, digital afterlife and repetition as a possible rebirth cycle. Sarah collaborated with Rachel McRae on the piece Digital & Dead, an AR work exploring the digital legacy, the digital footprint we naively leave behind through daily use of social media.

Alex Clarke

b. 1988

lives and works in London.

holds a BA from Central Saint Martins, London and a post-graduate diploma from The Royal Academy Schools in London.

Incorporating painting, photographic works, text pieces and installation, Alex Clarke places a sharp focus onto the network of relationships around not only the artwork but also practices of making and dissemination. He identifies that the very reason to want to make an artwork at all can be framed by the desire to talk to one another- that both artwork and practice act as placeholders and expanded gestures of discussion or exchange. To load this most basic social mechanism with such primary value positions Clarke’s work in a vital space beyond abstraction and into real-life moments of encounter, regaining an intimacy to connection and connectivity. The result is a pluri-disciplinary practice, poetic and thoughtful at once with an aim to place the viewer in an active position with the works.
